Sunday, October 26, 2008, 4:00 p.m., Petersburg High School - Russian Masterworks

Melodic and dramatic selections of Russian music open the season, including Shostakovich's Festival Overture, Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain, and Tchaikovsky's Andante Cantabile from his String Quartet #1. These pieces set the stage for guest pianist Buckner Gamby in Rachmaninov's popular Second Piano Concerto.

Sunday, December 7, 2008, 4:00 p.m., Petersburg High School - Messiah

The Orchestra presents Handel's famous oratorio, Messiah, joined by the One Voice Chorus of Richmond and guest soloists.

Sunday, February 22, 2009, 4:00 p.m., Petersburg High School - Petersburg Potpurri

An appealing variety of musical styles and origins characterizes this concert. You will hear Khatchaturians' Sabre Dance, selections from Mendelsshohn's "Scottish" Symphony #3, and a set of 20th-century suites, Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin, Sibelius' Karelia Suite, and Copland's Our Town Suite.

Sunday, April 26, 2009, 4:00 p.m., Petersburg High School - Conductor's Choice

Celebrating his 20th year as Music Director, Maestro Kirksey conducts works that demonstrate the expansive sound of the modern symphony orchestra: Frescobaldi's Toccata #1, originally for organ; Humperdinck's Prelude to the opera Hansel and Gretel, and Bruckner's earthy and contemplative Third Symphony.

Special Free Concert In Colonial Heights - Classical Pops

Sponsored by the City of Colonial Heights for an eighth year, the PSO will perform entertaining classical and popular music, and will be joined by Colonial Heights music students. The concert at the high school is open to the publiC free of charge. The date and time will be announced.
